Job Summary

Advanced Maintenance Workers perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled level trades work in the maintenance, repair, alteration and new construction of District buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment and service, clean, check and maintain stationary and mechanical school equipment. We are currently seeking a candidate who possesses training and/or experience in HVAC systems. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: - Minimum of three to five years of journey level experience in at least one trade in the construction or building maintenance field; varied training and experience in more than one skilled trade is highly desirable; HVAC experience is highly desirable for this position. - Formalized education/training in the skilled trade areas is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: methods, tools and practices used in minor and major repair of equipment; maintenance carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical work; heating and air conditioning; building plans and blueprints; appropriate safety precautions and procedures; appropriate lifting techniques; vehicle operation and safe driving techniques; proper methods of loading and unloading trucks; proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies; appropriate maintenance of records; recordkeeping principles and practices. 

Ability to: perform skilled work in one or more of the trades or maintenance areas; operate District vehicles, observing legal and defensive driving practices; perform routine and major maintenance and repair work; operate a variety of equipment; use necessary and appropriate tools for minor and major repair; understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal supervision; learn to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures; observe and instruct subordinates in duties involving heavy physical labor; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; meet schedule and timelines; estimate time and material requirements of specific projects and assignments.

License Requirements - Must have a valid California Drivers’ License

Physical Abilities – Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling items weighing up to 100 pounds, walking, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate related equipment and vehicles, bending, reaching and standing for extended periods of time. 

After an offer of employment is made, the selected candidate will be required to pass a physical exam and back x-ray before beginning the assignment.  Candidates may be subject to drug and alcohol testing as a condition for employment.
