About the Employer
The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Step into a transformative leadership role as an Assistant Principal at Sunburst Youth Academy, part of OCDE’s ACCESS (Alternative, Community, and Correctional Education Schools and Services). ACCESS is a public, WASC-accredited program offering diverse educational options for students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to adults seeking high school completion. Committed to educating the whole student, ACCESS uses the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework to address both academic and socio-emotional needs, preparing students for successful transitions to college, career, and life. At Sunburst Youth Academy, you will lead in providing a caring, safe, and engaging learning environment that fosters lifelong skills and empowers students to achieve positive transformations. ACCESS is proud to offer individualized academic programs, low student-to-teacher ratios, technology-rich environments, career technical education (CTE), and a variety of co-curricular activities and wrap-around services. These programs support diverse learning paths, including blended learning, independent study, and reentry programs, ensuring every student can find their unique path to success.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, including training in behavioral management. • Three (3) years of responsible teaching or educational experience involving at-promise students. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: • A valid California credential authorizing instruction or service in a public school program. • A valid California Administrative Credential.
