Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer, and/or other assigned supervisor, the Data and Reporting Systems Specialist performs a variety of specialized duties in support of various functions and transactions of the District's Student Information System (SIS) and other related systems; coordinates data and information to ensure accurate and efficient reporting and data retrieval.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Collect, verify, input and maintain student and staff data in the District’sStudent Information System and the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) for use in the preparation of a variety of local, federal, and state reports.
Ensure accurate and timely data reporting of student data, courses, and certificated staff data to federal and state agencies.
Organize, compile, and report data collected from a variety of sources or extracted from the district student information system; develop and generate summary reports, spreadsheets and query data as needed for various audiences.
Input, verify, and submit data for state reporting using specialized database applications/servers.
Collaborate with various staff to ensure the Student Information System remains updated to meet Federal and State reporting requirements.
Troubleshoot various technical issues related to the Student Information System via phone, email, or in person; respond to inquiries from school sites related to the student information system issues.
Provide training to staff on the Student Information System including anyother software applications that may be used in conjunction with the Student Information System; develop instructions and training materialsfor staff and other audiences.
Assist staff with coordination of data and related activities, including interfacing other database information for regulatory compliance offederal, state, and district assessment and testing programs.
Audit and enter changes, modifications, and amendments of data in the SIS system.
Assist department staff in the completion of annual setup of student/district data.
Prepare a variety of related materials such as reports, documents, memos and spreadsheets; document activities and provide instructions to others.
Communicate with staff, state, and other agencies to exchange information or resolve issues; provide additional information and recommendations to address a variety of program related requirements.
Attend and participate in webinars, conferences and related events to maintain current knowledge of new state and federal requirements.
Provide liaison support between schools and support programs as needed.
Operate a variety of portable computer devices, electronic meters, handtools and peripheral equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Student Information Systems andsupporting programs, including CALPADS; operation of a computer and peripheral equipment including a variety of software applications used by the District; principles of training and providing technical support; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; applicable sections of the state education code, rules and regulations pertaining to student records and attendance; data manipulation using computerized tools and applications such as databases and spreadsheets; data collection, evaluation, analysis and reporting methods; modern office equipment, methods and practices including correspondence, records management and filing systems; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Abilities: Ability to perform a variety of functions related to the District’s Student Information System and other related systems; compile, verifyand input data and information accurately; review and analyze data and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency; operate a variety ofequipment, including desktop computers, laptops, printers and other related equipment; compose various materials, including documents, reports and spreadsheets; work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction; read, understand, interpret and apply technical and complex information; collaborate with others, including users of various levels of expertise; provide training to individuals and small groups; understand and follow oral and written directions; organize, prioritize and schedule work to meet critical deadlines and schedules; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; maintain confidentiality with discretion of sensitive information; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; attend meetings, conferences and related events; observe legal and defensive driving practices; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
? Graduation from high school supplemented by college orvocational-level training in a related field.
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience using computer systems and maintaining databases.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Indoor work environment; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of computer andelectronic equipment, sitting or standing for extended periods of time,reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, hearing andspeaking to exchange information and provide training to others, moderatelifting of objects 15-44 pounds, and bending at the waist.
