Job Summary

Job Summary

This recruitment will be used to permanent and substitute positions working 6.5 Hours per day, 9 months per year. Under the supervision of a teacher or teachers, provides assistance to individual or small groups of children in Transitional-Kindergarten classroom, monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assists in providing instruction using principles and appropriate learning strategies to support children’s developmental growth in social-emotional development, cognitive development, language development, physical development and performs related duties as assigned. SPECIAL NOTE: Some positions require fluency in a language other than English. If fluency (written and spoken) in another language is required in an Instructional Aide position, that Aide may be required to perform any or all of the following additional duties: assists teacher to transition students from their native language to English by speaking, reading and writing in their language; translates for the teacher; reinforces the teacher's lesson plan and assists the student to speak, read and write English; translates written materials and information to go home to non-English speaking parents; translates for non- English speaking parents at parent-teacher conferences, or home visits by the teacher, or in phone conversations.

Requirements / Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent. • In compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and other related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards: - Paraprofessionals who provide instructional assistance are required to possess a high school diploma or equivalent AND one of the following: - Completion of 48 semester units or 72 quarter units from a recognized college or university; OR - Possession of an associate or higher degree, from a recognized college or university OR - Passing a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (MUSD-approved assessment) • Minimum one-year experience working with young children (TK serves children who turn 4 by September of the school year).
