Job Summary

Under general supervision, provides instructional support to an assigned individual student or student(s) with mild, moderate, or severe learning, emotional, physical, and mild to moderate behavioral disabilities in various subject areas to assist in implementing student Individualized Education Plans; observes, monitors, and records student performance and behavior; performs functions in support of classroom activities. Provides instructional support to general education students as assigned. HOURS ARE DURING SCHOOL HOURS: M-F

Under the direction of the Principal, Special Education and General Education teacher the assistant will provide additional assistance to the general education teacher in an elementary classroom. Special attention will be given to one student with special needs, as well as assisting the teacher with other students and regular duties in the classroom.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Under the supervision of the general education and special education staff to follow through on IEP goals and objectives.
- Suggest improvements for interventions, strategies for the students’ success.
- Encourage practice of skills and facilitate skill development.
- Perform any preparation, clerical tasks required by the teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience working with students with disabilities, behavior and learning needs in a general education setting.
- Excellent communication skills and social skills.
- AA degree or equivalent.
