We have an exciting opportunity for a Sociology + Ethnic Studies Instructor located at our campus in Menifee, CA. Mt. San Jacinto Community College District seeks a Sociology + Ethnic Studies Instructor to teach and develop courses in Sociology and Ethnic Studies. This is a full-time tenure-track academic position. The ideal candidate is student-oriented in their approach and dedicated to student success and will be skilled in generating student engagement in learning and will create welcoming learning environments that are equity-based and culturally affirming. Full-time faculty are typically assigned 15 lecture hours (or the equivalent in laboratory, studio or related activities) of student contact time per week. Office hours are also required. Faculty members are expected to participate in college governance through Academic Senate appointments to standing councils, committees, and/or a variety of task forces. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, multi-campus, off-campus, and online classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Master’s degree in sociology (attach transcripts); OR 2. Bachelor’s degree in sociology AND Master’s degree in anthropology, any ethnic studies discipline (e.g., African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, or American Indian Studies), social work or psychology (attach transcripts); OR 3. The equivalent; AND 4. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff ***Before scanning attachments, remove/redact sensitive, confidential information such as date of birth, social security number, address and photograph*** DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Strong academic preparation in any ethnic studies field as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework and/or prior teaching and work experience 2. Strong academic preparation in sociology and/or social justice as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework and/or prior teaching and work experience 3. Coursework, training and/or demonstrated experience in addressing issues of diversity as academic preparedness, culture, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic circumstances, and disability 4. Coursework, training and/or demonstrated experience in equity-focused pedagogy/andragogy, as evidenced by innovated learning practices and projects (such as acceleration models, learning communities, supplemental instruction, embedded tutoring. First Year Experience) 5. Demonstrated ability and/or experience to collaborate and lead innovative programs within a department that effectively helps students from historically underrepresented groups meet their educational goals 6. Record of meaningful engagement with grassroots and community-based organizations
