
History Instructor at Mt. San Jacinto College
Requirements / Qualifications
We have an exciting opportunity for a History Instructor located at our campus in San Jacinto, CA. Mt. San Jacinto Community College District seeks a History Instructor to teach and develop courses in History. This is a full-time tenure-track academic position. The ideal candidate will be skilled in generating student engagement in learning and will create welcoming learning environments that are equity-based and culturally affirming. Full-time faculty are typically assigned 15 lecture hours (or the equivalent in laboratory, studio or related activities) of student contact time per week. Office hours are also required. Faculty are expected to participate in college governance through Academic Senate appointments to standing councils, committees, and/or a variety of task forces. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, multi-campus, off-campus, and online classes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. A Master's degree in history (attach transcripts); OR 2. Bachelor’s degree in history AND Master’s degree in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science or ethnic studies (attach transcripts); OR 3. The equivalent; AND 4. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff ***Before scanning attachments, remove/redact sensitive, confidential information such as date of birth, social security number, address and photograph*** DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Demonstrated ability to teach US history and/or world survey courses 2. Demonstrated engagement and ongoing commitment to Ethnic Studies programs, courses and pedagogy, and preparation to teach Black History in the American Context 3. Evidence of ability to teach or develop specialty courses such as African American history or area survey courses including but not limited to Africa, Latin America, or Mexico 4. Recent (within the last 5 years) teaching experience in history at an accredited community college or other regionally accredited higher educational institution 5. Training or experience in the use of classroom technology and/or online instruction 6. Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in history 7. Demonstrated commitment to community college education, as evidenced in personal and/or professional experience 8. Demonstrated excellence in teaching (commitment to diverse teaching methods and learning styles, enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, student motivational skills and ability to teach students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds), including an outcome-oriented focus on student learning 9. Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to diversity issues in education
