Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent, the High School Principal serves as chief administrator of the high school. In addition to being responsible for maintaining an effective instructional program, the principal is responsible for the supervision of the school physical plant, the school budget, the certificated and classified staff, the student activity programs, and is responsible for maintaining active relationships with the community and close articulation with other educational levels. Such duties may include, but are not limited to, student welfare, discipline and attendance; classroom instruction; student activities; curriculum development; management of the plant; and specially funded programs. MAJOR TASKS As assessed by the superintendent, the outcomes of the High School Principal's job performance will be as follows: -Programs and operations of the school will have been appropriately effectively managed, directed and supervised. -Curriculum development, master schedule and instructional methodology will have been effectively coordinated. -Student guidance, attendance/records and testing programs will have been effectively coordinated and supervised. - WASC Coordinator/Director - LCAP Coordinator/Director - SARC Coordinator - Coordination and enforcement of student discipline procedures, including: - Campus supervision (parking lot, motor vehicles, lunches and breaks, school social functions, athletic events, etc.) - Assignment of disciplinary consequences - Conferences with parents/students/staff - Maintenance of current procedures and regulations related to student discipline - Liaison
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION: Desirable M.A. or M.S. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Desirable five or more years of teaching and administrative experience at the secondary level. At least three years of successful teaching experience or counseling and two years administrative experience as a high school assistant principal or equivalent. California Administrative Credential required. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS - Character, personality, and proper social capability to relate effectively with racially and ethnically diverse staff, students, and community. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of community groups and organizations. - Knowledge: Of all areas of attendance, student disciplinary procedures, curriculum, teacher-pupil relations, the budget, student government and leadership development, counseling and guidance functions, special programs, athletics, adequate preparation for supervision and evaluation of certificated teaching staff and classified staff, teaching strategies for technology, legal structure and process for handling juveniles, and community agencies. - Skill: To plan, organize and direct one's own work; relate well with staff and students both verbally and in writing; make decisions regarding the disposition of student problems within the framework of district policy; evaluate and prepare recommendations for curriculum changes; perform classroom observation and evaluation of certificated staff within the guidelines of district requirements.
