Antelope Valley College invites applications for our adjunct (Temporary, part-time) faculty applicant pool for the following Football Coaching Instructor. 

 

The Head Football Coach is responsible for overseeing the management and operation of the football program at Antelope Valley College (AVC). The individual will be tasked with developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the program, including coaching, recruitment, scheduling, compliance with academic and athletic regulations, and fostering a positive and competitive team culture. The Head Coach will work to build a program that emphasizes both athletic and academic success, ensuring that student-athletes excel both on the field and in the classroom. 

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

• Instruct students in the assigned discipline        

• Assignment may include teaching during the day, evening, and/or off-campus sites

 

Team Management:

Develop, implement, and communicate effective strategies and tactics for team performance.

• Plan and execute daily practices, workouts, and training sessions for the football team.

• Foster a positive and competitive team environment focused on discipline, accountability, respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

• Ensure players are academically eligible and meet CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association) eligibility requirements.

 

Recruitment:

Identify, recruit, and evaluate prospective student-athletes from local and contiguous districts.

• Build and maintain relationships with high school coaches.

• Conduct on-campus visits and recruit athletes with an emphasis on character, academic success, and athletic ability.

 

Game Preparation & Execution:

Develop and implement game plans, including offensive, defensive, and special teams strategies.

• Oversee and coordinate all aspects of game-day preparation, including player assignments, equipment, and logistics.

• Manage in-game coaching, making adjustments as needed to maximize team performance.

 

Student-Athlete Development:

Mentor and guide student-athletes in both athletic and academic pursuits, providing support to ensure their overall success.

• Promote a culture of academic achievement and personal responsibility among student-athletes.

 

Compliance & Administration:

Adhere to all California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) rules and regulations, as well as the college’s policies and procedures.

• Maintain accurate records of recruitment, eligibility, and student-athlete performance.

• Ensure compliance with Title IX, NCAA guidelines, and other relevant governing bodies.

• Manage team budgets and ensure that resources are used efficiently.

 

Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with the athletic department, including assistant coaches, and athletic trainers.

• Maintain open communication with the college administration, including athletic director, academic advisors, and other staff members.

• Represent the football program at college events, fundraising activities, and community outreach efforts.

 

Public Relations & Community Engagement:

• Promote the football program through media and community events.

• Engage with local communities, boosters, and alumni to create support for the program.

• Enhance the visibility and reputation of the football program within the college and broader community.

 

Facilities & Equipment Management:

Oversee the maintenance and proper usage of football facilities, equipment, and gear.

• Coordinate the scheduling of practices, games, and events at the campus facilities.

 

Professional Development:

Stay up-to-date on football coaching techniques, strategies, and trends.

• Attend coaching clinics, workshops, and conferences to continually improve skills and knowledge.

• Foster a culture of continuous learning for assistant coaches and players.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(Applicant must meet one of the following requirements)

 

Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience, OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalent.  

Antelope Valley College Equivalency: No Equivalency available.

 

AND a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 § 53024.1).

 

DESIRABLES QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.

• Strong organizational skills, including event planning, scheduling, and budgeting.

• Familiarity with the use of video analysis software, practice management tools, and other technologies in coaching.

• Ability to maintain professionalism and represent the college in a positive light.
