Job Summary
The job of the Mechanic Specialist is for the purpose of providing mechanic services by identifying repair and/or replacement needs; performing repairs and preventive maintenance; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; providing information on the proper uses of equipment; assisting other mechanics and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site. This job reports to the Director of Transportation Operations or designee.
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or equivalent GED. Four (4) years of experience as a mechanic performing a full range of fleet repairs on heavy duty and/or commercial vehicles with diesel, gas and alternative fuel engines. Experience servicing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines on school buses is desirable. A trade school with a degree/certificate in automotive repair may substitute for two years of the required experience. (For more information, please view the Job Description) EXAMINATION PROCEDURES This is a promotional and open competitive recruitment. The examination may consist of a training and experience (supplemental responses) evaluation, written test or performance test and a structured oral interview. To qualify to be placed on an eligibility list, a candidate must obtain a passing score on each test part of the examination process. Final scores will be obtained by combining the relative weights of scores on each test part. If Veteran's credit is claimed, proof of status (DD214) must be submitted to the Classified Personnel Office at the same time the application form is submitted or prior to testing. The life of the eligibility list will be twelve (12) months. The resulting eligibility list will be used to fill current and future permanent and substitute vacancies. Applicants who may need reasonable accommodation for interviewing or testing must notify the Personnel Department at (562) 690-2321, three business days prior to the testing date. Date of Examination Candidates who are among the most qualified shall be notified via email or telephone of the time, date and place of the examination(s).
