About the Employer
We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, lead and participate in a variety of custodial activities during an assigned shift to assure elementary schools buildings and adjacent grounds areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, safe and secure condition; train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Head Custodian I classification serves as a lead at an assigned elementary school site. The Head Custodian II classification serves as a lead at an assigned middle school site. The Head Custodian III classification serves as a lead at an assigned high school site.

*PROMOTIONAL ONLY * Restricted to probationary and permanent employees of the district and former employees on a valid reemployment list who meet the qualifications of the class. Unit: CSEA Classification Work Hours/Months: 8 Hours/ 12 Months Current Vacancies: 1 APPLICATION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years’ experience performing custodial activities.
SELECTION & EXAMINATIONS: The selection process will consist of a competitive application screening for completeness, qualifications, and experience. If your application is accepted to move forward with the testing process, you will be notified via email of the date and location of the exams which will tentatively be held in early January. A written/performance exam (weighted 40% of your score) and an oral panel interview (weighted 60% of your score) will be conducted. A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exams. Final selection will be made from those who achieve the three highest ranking scores.
