Job Summary

Job Summary

Definition: Under the general supervision, to plan and provide developmentally appropriate curricula and services to children and families enrolled in the Early Head Start (EHS) center-based program, ages birth to three years of age; to partner with parents and embrace an approach in assisting parents to be the child’s first teacher, ensure the health and safety of children, assure compliance with State, Federal, and local statutory requirements; and perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS: • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and a valid California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher • At least one year’s experience in child development and early childhood education and complete at least six semester units in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development within the first year of employment • Knowledge of theories and principles of child growth, development, early childhood education and family support • Experience working with children and families from a diverse background and ability to develop respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families • Computer experience • Ability to work as a member of a team where diverse program content must be well integrated to provide quality services • Valid California Driver’s License Desirable: • Bilingual in English and in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese. • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, Title V, Community Care Licensing (Title 22), and Developmentally Appropriate Practice • Knowledge of early child development curriculum (e.g., Creative Curriculum) and assessment tool (e.g., Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP))
