ABOUT SCHOOL OF UNLIMITED LEARNING School of Unlimited Learning (SOUL) educational program is located at the Fresno EOC Sanctuary Youth Center at 2336 Calaveras Street. SOUL’s instructional staff consists of 11 fully credentialed, full-time teachers, who serve an average of 200 students per semester. SOUL offers a rigorous academic, standards-based curriculum. SOUL is an excellent educational option for those seeking a small school alternative to a large, traditional high school. The Principal/Academic Officer at Fresno EOC School of Unlimited Learning (SOUL) is responsible for overseeing 9th-12th grade classroom-based and independent study programs, ensuring academic excellence, and promoting the mission and vision of the school. The Principal/Academic Officer provides strategic leadership in curriculum development, staff development, and student achievement while ensuring compliance with charter regulations and state education requirements. The Principal/Academic Officer fosters an inclusive, innovative learning environment that meets the needs of diverse learners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for supervising assigned staff, interns and volunteers; recruitment, performance management and other personnel processes.

Leadership & Vision

 Develop and implement a clear, compelling vision for the school that aligns with the charter's mission.

Provide instructional leadership and foster a culture of high expectations for both students and staff.

Lead and manage the daily operations of both classroom-based and independent study programs, ensuring high-quality academic instruction.

Oversee the development and implementation of school policies, procedures, and academic goals.

Curriculum & Instruction

Ensure that curricula for both classroom-based and independent study programs meet state standards and cater to students’ individual learning styles and needs.

Lead ongoing review and refinement of instructional practices to support student engagement and achievement.

Develop innovative strategies to address diverse student needs, including intervention and support for struggling learners and accelerated programs for advanced students.

Staff Management & Development

Recruit, mentor, and evaluate highly qualified teachers and support staff.

Design and implement professional development programs that align with instructional goals and staff needs.

Supports the professional growth of the team by fostering a collaborative and supportive professional learning community among faculty and staff which includes training, mentoring, and career advancement.

 

Student Achievement & Assessment

Analyze student performance data and use it to guide instructional decisions and school enhancements.

Oversee the implementation of assessment and accountability systems, ensuring compliance with state testing and other evaluation metrics.

Develop individualized support plans for students in need of additional academic support or enrichment opportunities.

Student & Family Engagement

Promote strong relationships between the school, families, and the community.

Engage parents/guardians in the educational process through regular communication of school policies, achievements, and school involvement opportunities.

Ensure that all students, regardless of background, have access to educational resources and opportunities to succeed, including guidance, mental health and counseling services.

 

 Compliance & Reporting

Ensure the school’s adherence to charter, district, and state policies and regulations.

Prepare and accurately submit all necessary compliance reports (renewals, LCAP, etc), including those related to attendance, academic performance, and budgeting in a timely fashion.

Oversee the accreditation process and ensure ongoing compliance with accrediting bodies.

 

Operations & Financial Oversight

Collaborate with the school’s Governing Council, Board of Commissioners, and administrative team to manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.

Oversee the school’s operational processes, including scheduling, staffing, and facilities management.

Ensure fiscal accountability and responsible financial management of school resources.

Travels for agency business using reliable transportation.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Works evenings and weekends as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Requirements / Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS To execute this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION: Master’s degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Education Administration, or a related field (Doctorate preferred). Valid California Administrative Services Credential (or equivalent, if out of state). EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of successful experience in educational leadership, preferably in a charter or alternative high school education setting, working with a diverse group of students. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Proven experience in curriculum development and assessment, with a focus on both traditional classroom settings and independent study models. Strong knowledge of California charter school laws and compliance requirements. Previous experience in the development of a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Credential Requirements (including Certification or Education Requirements): Required Documents (Resume, References (How many?), Transcripts, etc.):
