Job Summary
Perform the necessary duties to adapt and modify assignments, braille instructional materials, interline braille to make materials accessible to visually impaired (VI) students. Assist VI Teacher and Braille Specialists with clerical duties. Work with VI students one-on-one in classroom setting to assist with class assignments and skill building.
Requirements / Qualifications
Required: -High school diploma or equivalent. -An AA degree (or equivalent) or passage of proficiency examination in compliance with Education Code and Every Student Succeeds Act/No Child Left Behind Act. -Ability to read and write uncontracted (Grade 1) Braille and to pass a SLOCOE Braille assessment test. -Experience working with children in an organized setting. -First Aid and CPR certification (provided by SLOCOE) must be obtained within 130 days of employment. Desired: -One year experience (paid or volunteer) working with children with disabilities
All applicants must meet paraprofessional proficiency requirements (48 semester units, AA degree or higher, passage of CBEST test, or proof of NCLB/ESSA compliance) If needed, applicants may take the ESSA Paraprofessional Proficiency exam at the SLOCOE Office. The exam is administered by appointment at the SLOCOE Main Office (across from Cuesta College on Highway One). Please call (805) 782-7264 to schedule an appointment. There is a braille skills assessment that candidates must pass in order to qualify for this position. Prior training will be provided to serious candidates only. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
