Under the direction of the principal, serves as the assistant to the principal of the school as it relates to the instructional program, operation of the school plant, staff, students, and community. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES General: 1. Assists in the administration of district policies, programs, and regulations of the school system as they apply to the school. 2. Recognizes that statutory law, Board policies and instructions from the principal constitute the administrative authority in the school. 3. Keeps the principal fully advised as to the conditions and needs of the school through established channels. Certificated and Classified Personnel 1. Assists in the assignment of activities and supervisory duties of staff members. 2. Assists in the assignment of teachers to classes. 3. Assists in the supervision of teachers assigned to the school. 4. Assists in the certificated evaluation process of the school in accordance with Board policy Master Contract. 5. Assists in the supervision of work performed by the classified personnel in the school. Pupil Personnel: 1. Assists in the supervision of attendance accounting and reports the monthly summary of same to the principal's office. 2. Prepares of supervises the preparation of such other reports as are required by law or may be deemed necessary by the principal. 3. Enforces reasonable disciplinary measures in the school to maintain satisfactory pupil contact. 4. Takes all reasonable precautions to safeguard the health and general well-being of the staff and of the pupils within the school, and provides definite plans by which the school staff may be able to provide for the safety and care of the pupils in case of fire, air raid, storm or other sudden danger to the school plant, and sees that pupils are adequately trained to make such plans effective at any time. 5. Reports all injuries incurred by pupils and is responsible for transmitting the proper forms to the principal. 6. Assists in the admittance of pupils to the school in accordance with proper transfer procedures. 7. Makes a special effort to cooperate with the parents of the pupils in the school, and sees that parents are notified as soon as possible regarding student achievement and discipline problems. 8. Permits interviews with pupils by persons outside the school system with parents, legal guardians or officers of the law only. Building and Grounds: Has primary responsibility for supervising and coordinating the maintenance of the physical plant. Responsibilities to the Principal: 1. Reports to the principal any grievances or problems for which he/she is unable to find a solution or which are beyond his/her immediate control. 2. Refers to the principal any conflict over authority within his/her assignment. Until such conflict is resolved by mediation, the authority of the vice-principal shall prevail. 3. Serves on all committees assigned by the principal. 4. Assists the principal on other duties as assigned by the principal. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Credential: Appropriate California Administrative or Supervision Credential. 2. Education: Master's degree required, plus evidence of recent growth. 3. Experience: Teaching and administrative experience at the appropriate school level; training and experience in the supervision of certificated and classified personnel; training and experience in the development of curriculum.
