DEFINITION OF POSITION:
Under supervision, to explore and develop local vocational training and job placement sites for high school students with special needs; to match students with appropriate worksites to maximize success; to provide appropriate follow-up on student work placement; to develop positive community attitudes toward the employment of handicapped students; to provide classroom assistance in vocational and daily living skills; and to perform related work as required.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.
- Visits local businesses to develop job training and placement sites for high school students in special education programs.
- In coordination with project staff, establishes a system for monitoring student readiness, placement and progress vocationally.
- Works cooperatively with a team to implement Project Workability.
- Performs vocational assessments and prevocational training in the Workability Office.
- Supports students at their job site by job coaching.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school, plus complete at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education (college level) or forty-eight (48) semester units, including a math and an English class; obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; good general background and work experience, including one year of paid or volunteer experience working with children requiring a more specialized learning environment.
Knowledge of:
Basic needs and behavior of children and adolescents; concepts of child growth and developmental behavioral characteristics; student behavior management strategies and techniques; appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; and basic arithmetical concepts; vocation training and job placement; local community business and/or professional resources.
Ability to:
Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students who exhibit physical and learning needs of a specialized nature; communicate effectively in oral and written form; learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures; perform routine clerical tasks; and understand and carry out oral and written directions; work cooperatively with school personnel, local agencies, parents and the business community; demonstrate leadership and initiative; and perform related duties as required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Driver License. Must furnish own vehicle. Mileage allowance provided.
- Valid first aid and CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency.

Classroom and outdoor environment.
Physical Demands:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students; ability to reach above the shoulders; seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities; hearing and speaking to exchange information.

The district offers this test monthly. You are given two hours to complete the test. CBEST results can be submitted in lieu of the district test. If you are submitting transcripts in lieu of the test they must be submitted with the application. Unofficial can be submitted but transcripts must be legible and show proof of forty-eight (48) semester units, including a math and an English class; OR a conferred date for an associate’s (or higher) degree ACCOMMODATIONS: In compliance with the American Disabilities Act, applicants with disabilities may request that reasonable accommodation be given related to the examination process itself.
