LOS ANGELES EDUCATION CORPS JOB TITLE: ELD Instructor (High School) Location: 1403 S. Union Ave, Los Angeles 90015 GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of the site principal, ELD Coordinator, and Chief of Academic Operations, the ELD Instructor will design and teach a variety of instructional lessons for non-English proficient and limited English proficient high school students with emphasis on oral and written language skills. The instructor will also be responsible for a variety of clerical and instructional support tasks for teachers and students; and do related work as required. SPECIFIC DUTIES: • Develops, Plans, and Implements lessons for daily Designated EL block in 2 ELD levels (one taught for newcomer EL’s and the other for emerging EL’s). Lessons should connect to the CA ELD speaking, listening, reading and writing standards. • Revise and improve current ELD curriculum and pacing guides for ELD 3 and 4 classes made up of majority LTEL students across campuses. • Teach bilingual classes in different content areas as needed or push in to classes to support EL’s in their non-ELD, content area classes. • Record and submit grades for students in ELD class. Provide continual assessment of student progress. • Organize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning. • Support and coach ELD tutoring staff in best practices for language acquisition. • Undergo test examiner training to administer the English Language Proficiency Assessment in California (ELPAC both initial and summative). Administer the ELPAC exam across school sites (when needed). • Assist content teachers with incorporating ELD standards into their unit plans for Integrated ELD. • Assist in planning and facilitating at least 2 PDs each school year (Fall semester, Spring semester) in collaboration with admin around ELD standards and teaching ELs. • Execute the LEA’s plan for delivering ELD service

• Ability to craft innovative, interactive lesson plans
• Ability/willingness to teach multiple preps within one subject area (note: this requires more planning, but the trade-off is much smaller class sizes)
• Ability to provide scaffolding for students who are behind
• Interest beyond merely teaching, to include extracurricular activities (art? sports? drama? hiking/camping? technology? what extra talents do you bring?)
• Intern, preliminary, or clear credential
