Job Summary

Job Summary

Under general supervision, perform a variety of technical duties related to the District’s risk management and health and welfare benefits programs, including retirement benefits, health benefits, Workers’ Compensation, Return to Work program, safety, property and liability, and student insurance; act as a resource to employees and coordinate the activities of service providers; perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or its equivalent. • Three years of increasingly responsible office administrative experience, preferably in risk management, including familiarity with health benefits and workers’ compensation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION INCLUDE: • Knowledge of Principles and practices related to all areas of risk management, including Workers’ Compensation and health and welfare benefits. • Knowledge of property and liability insurance practices. • Knowledge of safety regulations and management practices. • Knowledge of health and welfare benefit programs, including deferred compensation and retirement plans and policies • Knowledge of Affordable Care Act requirements, including measuring and offering medical insurance to qualified substitutes or part-time employees. • Knowledge of return-to-work practices and procedures; laws, rules and regulations related to the Education Code, Labor Code, IRS, Cal-OSHA, federal, state and county reporting agencies and Health Benefits. • Knowledge of District operations, policies and objectives. • Ability to operate a computer and assigned office equipment. • Ability to analyze and interpret health plan coverage for employees, new hires and retirees. • Ability to maintain accurate records and files. • Ability to process open enrollment forms and other documents. • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet schedules and time lines. • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. • Ability to work confidentially with discretion.
