Description 

Under general supervision, perform difficult and complex account record keeping in Nutrition Services especially in the areas of bookkeeping, financial and statistical records; perform assigned administrative support and clerical duties pertinent to the department and assigned functions; and other related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that might be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Performs technical and complex budgetary and accounting duties in assisting in the preparation, maintenance and review of the Nutrition Services Department budget, financial and payroll records, accounts and reports to assure accuracy of conformance to established procedures
  • Maintains and oversees the accuracy of all free/reduced application forms, and conducts annual verification of free/reduced application forms meeting the State requirements
  • Verifies, extends, encumbers, and balances Nutrition Services reports on a daily and monthly basis
  • Prepares, organizes, and maintains various complex accounting such as annual budget reports, monthly profit and loss report, monthly general ledger balance reports, monthly claim for school nutrition program, monthly school cafeteria data on free/reduced/paid meals and percentage of enrollment served, 1099 report, quarterly sales tax reports filed with the Franchise Tax Board, various reports required by the School Nutrition Programs of California Department of Education
  • Maintains check register, check deposit slips; verifies bank corrections, memos, and bank statements
  • Manages and controls the department’s accounting system; oversees and advises other Nutrition Services personnel regarding accounting using the computerized accounting program; processes work orders, buy-out requisitions, and purchase orders pertaining to the Nutrition Services Department
  • Processes invoices and warrants for vendors
  • Maintains inventory of cafeteria food supplies and supplies stored in the warehouse and school storage area
  • Computes physical inventory counts
  • Composes and/or types correspondence in connection with the operation of the Nutrition Services Department
  • Maintains and balances two accounting softwares
  • Does transfers and journal entries between accounts 
  • Performs related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, practices, and procedures of school district accounting
  • Policies and regulations pertaining to accounting and financial record management and reporting
  • Operation of manual and computer-assisted accounting systems
  • Spreadsheet software
  • Bookkeeping, accounting and fiscal planning, and management systems and procedures 

Ability to:

  • Perform complex accounting and fiscal record management, and reporting functions
  • Prepare, review, and analyze accounting, and budget control
  • Prepare clear and concise fiscal, financial, and narrative reports
  • Type and skillfully operate computer terminal and computer equipment
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Use new equipment and technology as it becomes required to perform this job

 

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience: Three years of responsible accounting and financial record management and reporting experience, preferably in a school setting

  • Letter of Introduction (Please describe your experience that qualifies you for the position)
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (3-Within the last 12 months)
  • Other (Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training and/or coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, and business office organizations and planning, or closely related fields, preferably have an Associate of Arts in accounting)
  • Resume

The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
