About the Employer
The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. OCDE's Inside the Outdoors (ITO) has been a leader in innovative environmental education and social science programs since 1974. As a team, our goal is to empower Orange County’s next generation of environmentally-literate community members through our Field Trips, Traveling Scientist, and Community programs. ITO is recruiting a talented individual to serve as Instructional Programs Assistant to help lead the operation of Inside the Outdoors’ environmental education programs. As well as supporting ITO’s general operations, this key managerial position will help oversee and support ITO’s partnership work with funders and government agencies. They will also assist with developing materials and reports for grants and contracts; plan and implement volunteer and community events; and support fundraising efforts in collaboration with our partners at Inside the Outdoors Foundation. Other key functions include: • Recommend and assist with the implementation of ITO’s strategic plan, goals, and objectives. • Assist in the planning, organization, design, and implementation of educational programs for Inside the Outdoors, with a specific focus on supporting partnerships. • Assist in writing grant proposals and reports. • Create surveys, analyze data, and compile reports to assess program effectiveness. • Recruit, train, supervise, and coach assigned staff.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, environmental science, public relations, or a related field. • Two (2) years of experience working in environmental education. Experience working and collaborating with diverse communities is strongly desired. • One (1) year of experience collaborating with funding partners, writing grant proposals and reports, serving as lead curriculum designer for an environmental education organization, and/or supervising environmental education staff is highly desired.
