BUSINESS MANAGER
Job Summary: Under the direction and guidance of the Superintendent, the Business Manager prepares and maintains district budget, files, records, financial documents, facilities maintenance, and other district business. The Business Manager serves as a confidential employee for the Superintendent and the Board of Trustees.
Desirable Qualifications, Training and Experience
- Background in budget development in the public or private sector.
- Knowledge/background of office procedures in a school district or other public sector organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field preferred. May substitute experiences in accounting or financial administration or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, board, students, and parents.
- Perform a variety of school based clerical work involving use of independent judgment and requiring accuracy, speed and perseverance.
- Willingness to extend working hours to complete specific projects.
Knowledge of:
- Current school district or similar business office practices, methods and procedures
- Computer hardware and software as employed in a professional office setting.
- Standard office machines. Word processing a must.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of financial transactions and records and the preparation of all financial reports. Assures that the District is compliant in all facets of State and County budget reporting.
- Interprets accounting programs for the Superintendent/Principal and Board of Trustees. Is proficient in analysis of budgeting issues, prepares and presents statistical data, and interacts with Board, Staff, and Community regarding budgeting issues.
- Prepares and administers the annual District Budget and Auditing process.
- Responsible for purchasing, inventory, and coordinates facilities maintenance and operations
- Assists the cafeteria program to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
- Accounts for and reports expenditures of Federal and State funded programs. Assists in preparation of the Consolidated Application for categorical programs and completes mandated expenditure reports.
- Assists independent auditor in completing annual audit.
- Prepares and/or approves documents relating to the fiscal activities of the District.
- Comprehend and explain school district policies as they relate to both certificated and classified personnel.
- Process district payroll for both certificated and classified personnel
- Handle accounts receivable/accounts payable. Prepare district warrants and related reports
- Maintain purchase orders for the district
- Maintain bank accounts, revolving, student, lunch and L.A.I.F. Make bank deposits/withdrawals.
- Attend trainings for business managers as provided by the Inyo County Office of Education.
- Attend regular (monthly) and special board meetings.
- Performs all other related duties as instructed by the Superintendent/Principal and Board of Trustees.
