Job Description
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Crafton Hills College seeks a dynamic, culturally responsive, and social justice-driven counselor who is committed to advocating for disproportionately impacted students. The counselor will provide comprehensive academic, career, and personal counseling services, including follow-up support. Key responsibilities include evaluating transcripts, assisting students with career exploration, and developing comprehensive education plans using online education tools.
Additional duties include offering career and transfer guidance, course selection support, and participating in evening and occasional weekend work. The counselor will work in-person five days a week at Crafton Hills College, contributing to a collaborative and adaptable environment that upholds the highest standards of integrity, ethical practice, and innovation, fostering student success.
Representative Duties:

• Facilitate career and transfer workshops, with a particular focus on follow-up for probation, dismissal, and special student populations.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of programs that enhance access and retention, particularly for disproportionately impacted students.
• Conduct student orientations, student success workshops and student engagement activities.
• Engage in departmental and campus-wide meetings and initiatives.
Other responsibilities to this position, include, but are not limited to:
• Serve as a liaison to college at large to include instructional divisions, district committees, and the broader community.
• Assist in the creation and dissemination of counseling-related publications.
• Provide targeted support to students meeting unit milestones completion and provide follow-up services for probation cases.
• Lead workshops for specific student populations, ensuring inclusive and effective learning environments.
• Participate actively in departmental, campus-wide activities, and initiatives related to student success.
• In addition, assists in developing and implementing success programs for students to advance the vision of Crafton Hills College, which is to transform lives through education.
• The Counselor assumes responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for assisting in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; program review and planning and participating in department activities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience Guidelines:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling.
OR the equivalent
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
Experience:Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, understanding barriers non-traditional students face, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
Desired Qualifications:
• At least one year of experience with the transfer process and articulation including proficiency in UC Transfer, Cal State Apply, and ASSIST platforms.
• One-year experience working with students to identify a major and/or career path using career inventories and other strategies.
• Demonstrated experience developing strategies and skills for supporting disproportionately impacted groups and special populations students (example; first generation, foster youth, low income, veterans, Black/African American, and Latinx) in overcoming barriers to transition into postsecondary education pathways.

• Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
• Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)
