Under general supervision, The Social Media and Campus Engagement Strategist develops and implements innovative strategies to enhance Merced College's digital presence and campus culture. This critical role involves leading creative social media campaigns, driving community interaction, and orchestrating activities that foster robust engagement within both the campus and wider community. The strategist will also manage the Merced College mascot program and play a key role in coordinating significant campus events, contributing to an inclusive and vibrant educational environment.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
• Develop and lead dynamic social media strategies across platforms to elevate Merced College's profile and connect with diverse audiences• Generate engaging, platform-specific content such as posts, videos, stories, and live sessions that promote college events, achievements, and initiatives, ensuring a cohesive voice and brand consistency• Monitor and analyze the performance of social media campaigns and interactions, using data to refine tactics and increase engagement and reach• Collaborate with the External Relations team to integrate social media strategies with broader marketing and outreach campaigns• Plan and promote key college events through social media and other digital channels.• Manage all aspects of the college mascot program, including recruiting and training student performers, scheduling appearances, and maintaining the mascot costume• Actively engage with the college community and the public on social media platforms, responding to comments and fostering a positive online environment• Proactively keep abreast of social media and AI trends, tools, and best practices to continuously improve engagement strategies and implement innovative solutions• Support crisis communication efforts on social media, collaborating with the public relations team to quickly address and manage sensitive situations• Contribute to fundraising, alumni relations, and community outreach efforts by developing and promoting events and campaigns that enhance community ties and support college goals.• Serve as a liaison for the college at community and campus events, enhancing visibility and fostering relationships with external partners and stakeholders• Coordinate and execute campus-wide and community events designed to engage the campus, strengthen community ties and enhance the visibility of Merced College• Perform related duties as necessary to support the evolving needs of the college and its community
Knowledge of:
• Best practices, trends, and tools for social media platforms (ex: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, and LinkedIn)• Principles and techniques of digital content creation, including writing, graphic design, video production, and editing• Strategies for building and maintaining digital audience engagement and community interaction• Event planning and management, including understanding of logistics, vendor management, and public safety regulations• Current practices in community outreach, public relations, and marketing• Techniques for effective team collaboration and cross-departmental communication• Applicable laws, codes, regulations, and guidelines related to privacy, publicity, and content accessibility on digital platforms• Basic project management principles and practices, especially related to event organization and promotional campaigns
Ability to:
• Develop, implement, and evaluate dynamic social media strategies and campaigns that effectively target diverse audiences• Develop comprehensive strategies that integrate digital engagement with overall marketing and community outreach objectives• Create and curate engaging and accurate content tailored for different platforms and audiences Analyze and interpret social media metrics to guide strategy adjustments and report on ROI• Coordinate and promote campus and community events that enhance college spirit and community engagement• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing strategic planning with day-to-day execution tasks• Collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including students, faculty, community members, and external partners• Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing• Be a strong team player with a proven track record of collaborative project management and a commitment to a positive, inclusive workplace culture• Adapt to emerging technologies and changes in the digital landscape to continuously improve engagement efforts• Demonstrate cultural competence and inclusivity when engaging with diverse populations both online and during campus events.• Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. Typical Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree AND one (1) year of applicable experience OR applicable certificationsOR• Associate's degree AND four (4) years of applicable experience AND applicable certificationsOR
• the equivalent education and experience.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Desired Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field• Proven experience in social media management and digital content creation, with a strong portfolio demonstrating successful engagement• Demonstrated capability in event planning and execution, showcasing the ability to manage logistics and coordinate large-scale events• Excellent organizational skills, capable of multitasking projects with attention to detail and deadlines• Effective communication skills, adept at producing compelling content and engaging diverse audiences• Proven ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions that align with organizational objectives• Familiarity with using AI technologies for strategic planning and content creation, enhancing engagement and operational efficiencies• Leadership in conceptualizing and implementing initiatives that enhance community engagement and support institutional growth• Creative and innovative thinker, with an ability to adapt strategies to dynamic environments and solve problems under pressure• Enthusiastic about participating in community engagement and understanding the unique dynamics of a collegiate environment
