The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
The Educational Services Division offers professional development, consultation, and technical assistance to district leaders and school staff across Orange County. Our team consists of coordinators and experts dedicated to supporting students through a whole-child approach, focusing on academic, social-emotional, and career domains. OCDE is seeking a Coordinator, School Counseling Services to provide technical assistance and professional development to district and site administrators, as well as school counselors across 28 districts. This role involves implementing comprehensive school counseling programs aligned with the ASCA National Model and contributing to statewide initiatives to enhance school counseling practices.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Five (5) years of experience as a school counselor is required. High school counseling experience preferred. • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible leadership including educational administrative service at the site and/or district setting preferred. • Master's Degree with major coursework in educational counseling, education administration, psychology, behavior management, or a related field required. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: • A valid California PPS credential authorizing instruction or service in a public school program is required. • A Valid California Administrative credential is required.
