Job Summary
The job of Accounting Technician is done for the purposes of performing complex accounting and bookkeeping work; processing payment for approved invoices and contract payments; processing receipts for deposits, recording, updating, and reconciling financial information; preparing and maintaining computer-generated financial reports for an assigned independent auxiliary program, and providing accounting support to other personnel in accordance with established practices. This job reports to the Director of Finance or designee.
Requirements / Qualifications
Equivalency: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: Two years of college-level coursework in accounting or related area, and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports. SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent codes, rules, and regulations; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.); preparing and maintaining accurate records; and performing accounting procedures. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting principles, practices, and procedures; and basic financial analysis and statistical record-keeping techniques.
Please note that the current vacancy for this position is 6 hours per day, 30 hours a week, with a 10-month work schedule per year. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission. Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1). **We will not accept applications after the deadline**
