Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Community School, will assist the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team to develop exemplary structures to bridge the gap to higher educational aspirations. Youth Mentor will assist in wrap-around services for all scholars. Youth Mentor will support students in strengthening and developing personal, social, and emotional skills that will help them learn to address barriers to success. Maintain core YPICS values in all aspects of engagement with students, parents and staff. About Our Schools: YPI Charter Schools equip urban students in grades 5-12 for academic success and active community participation. Our schools feature personalized, small learning communities with continuous student-teacher relationships, service learning, and technology integration. The school follows a traditional calendar and serves students from predominantly Latino immigrant families in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and Pico Union/Koreatown parts of Los Angeles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Utilize the resources and partnerships developed at the school to provide support to students and their families - Support with implementing Tier II behavior management strategies including using the Behavior Growth Pathway, Office Discipline Referrals (ODRs), classroom routines, building a classroom culture, teaching school wide expectations, and building relationships with students. - Develop a strong knowledge base of evidence-based practices related to schoolwide systems of support and individual behavior intervention. - Manage a caseload of 15-20 students. - Maintain notes about attendance behavior, and course work progress for students on caseload. - Assists with data collection and data based decision making processes. - Utilize strategic and constructive ways to address student needs. - Ensure student trust within the confines of provider/client confidentiality. - Develop a strong relationship with Coord

- At least Associate's Degree in related field desired. - At least 3 years of experience working with youth in a recreational, educational and/or social environment. - Strong commitment and motivation to assist in achieving goals centered around YPICS values. - Ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels (including staff, parents, students, community members, and external vendors/partners) in a respectful manner and provide excellent customer service. - Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred. - Foundational understanding of the socio-demographics and needs of our community. - Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. - Ability to collaborate with multiple people on diverse issues simultaneously with the ability to foster positive working relationships; must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. - Experience working and interacting with individuals of diverse ethnic backgrounds; familiarity working with similar population as service area. - Strong written, verbal, time-management, and organization skills. - Ability to problem-solve in a collaborative setting. Other working requirements: - Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (some weekends, some evenings required). - Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to off site meetings and trainings. If applicable, will be required to provide proof of current California driver license, acceptable driving record (current DMV H6 printout), and current liability auto insurance.
