THE POSITION: Under the direction and supervision of the principal, the Music Chair will oversee the daily operations of the Music Department. Candidates must be dedicated to increasing diversity in the student body and creating access to the program for students of color and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The selected candidate will provide visionary leadership in the development and expansion of the Music program. They will develop curriculum, communicate with parents, and collaborate with the other arts department chairs. They will create opportunities for students to present their work in LA communities and high-profile events, and to work with non-profit arts providers in developing programing, outreach, and recruiting “pipelines” for prospective LACHSA students. They will recruit and admit student’s representative of LA’s diverse populations, and foster a safe and inclusive culture among students and faculty.
Requirements / Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience: Five or more years of professional work as an artist, with a CV representative of the candidate’s level of the achievement, arts teaching in an institutional setting with high achieving arts students. Education: Preferably a master's degree in Music or related field. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE (Must attach a detailed certification/credential with document number to application): • Possess and maintain a valid: California Single Subject Music Teaching Credential. AND Must also hold a full EL authorization Clad (ELA1) or BCLAD. • Intern applications are considered with the following conditions: CTC Issued intern credential in Music. OR Letter from approved Intern credential program verifying eligibility. (Candidates recommended for hire with intern credential will need to sign a commitment letter with a timeline for completion of intern program.)
