Job Title: SCHOOL COMMUNITY LIAISON
Range: 14
SUMMARY
Promote, recruit, organize and identify supportive services for bilingual program target area parents. Work with at-risk students and families. Assist in the implementation of program components.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
While most positions work in Migrant Education, assignments are possible
within other programs. Their primary purpose is to ensure attendance by students who
have been targeted and identified for participation in programs which provide extra support for those needing academic and community assistance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Helps parents become more involved with their child's school.
Works with students with attendance problems.
Makes home visits to instruct preschool children in the basics necessary to succeed in a kindergarten classroom.
Registers qualified students into program.
Performs aptitude testing of children and records results.
Maintains simple records.
Assists with the selection of materials used for instruction.
Collects and maintains data relative to project welfare services, and refers to health resources.
Translates for families and the schools.
Assists with organization of parent training.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
Culture of the target community
Community social service agencies
Child growth and development
District policies and procedures regarding attendance and acceptable school behavior
Methods for teaching ESL
Record keeping and report writing
Ability to:
Work evenings
Make home visits
Use of personal vehicle for home visits
Read, write and speak fluent Spanish
Communicate effectively with the community
Operate a PC and related software
Maintain effective working relationships with other people
Understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures and policies
Operate modern office equipment
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.
High School Diploma, or G.E.D. Equivalency
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Valid California driver’s license

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and uses personal vehicle and occasionally works in evenings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
