Requirements / Qualifications

DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Student Services Mental Health Therapist will provide educationally related intensive counseling services (ERICS) to students receiving Special Education services and school-based mental health counseling services in order to promote mental health and personal growth. The Mental Health Therapist consults with pertinent school staff and district personnel as it relates to the student and provides parent counseling as it relates to the student’s disability as outlined by the student’s Independent Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an appropriate accredited institution of higher learning desired with extensive experience in the field of mental health development and educational progress. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relations with certificated and classified employees, parents, pupils, and the community. Ability to organize and present ideas effectively in oral and written form. Ability to meet state standards of physical and mental health. Valid California driver’s license and appropriate transportation vehicle. CREDENTIAL REQUIRED: The Mental Health Therapist is required to hold certification as a Licensed or Associate level Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT/AMFT), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/ACSW), or Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC/APCC) and must be currently registered with BBS. The Mental Health Therapist shall have advanced training and related experience in providing therapeutic services to individuals with exceptional needs and specialist in-depth knowledge in working with students with emotional disturbances and other mental health challenges that are impacting their academic progress and social emotional functioning.
