CLASS TITLE: ASSESSMENT TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general direction, provides technical assistance to the Education Services and Restructuring Division through the accessing of school data and district-wide student testing data for purposes of statistical analysis and reporting. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent, Education Services and Restructuring.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Operates a computer terminal to enter and retrieve data and verifies for correctness.
Assists in analyzing and disseminating student testing information; assists in the placement and completion of grading information.
Assists in coordinating the District's testing program for standardized tests and proficiency tests.
Prepares statistical data for the schools, administration and Board of Education.
Schedules input-output work in coordination with computer schedule; requests computer services such as print-outs and labels; maintains continuous control to assure work is completed according to schedule. Records, separates and distributes output report to user departments and communicates with users, answering questions related to any input-output information needed.
Assists in the publication, distribution and tabulation of materials necessary for testing students. Inventories, distributes and packages testing materials located in the warehouse and storage room.
Composes independently or from oral instruction letters requesting or providing information.
Prepares a yearly calendar and timelines to ensure proper and timely distribution of all tests, practice materials, supplies and manuals.
Responsible for the scoring of all test documents, using either in-house equipment or outside scoring services and distributes test results to schools in a timely manner.
Prepares summaries and analyses of test results.
Coordinates the notification of parents of test results as required by the California Education Code (e.g., CTBS and M.P.T.).
Provides assistance to school staff in analyzing and interpreting test results and in utilizing data to improve the instructional program.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
District policies and procedures as they apply to student testing, record keeping and reporting.
Methods and practice of statistical record keeping work involving data processing.
Statistical analysis evaluation of test results.
Format and procedures for entering and retrieving various types of data.
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal relations skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
ABILITY TO:
Read and interpret federal regulations, state guidelines, and District policies, rules and regulations.
Analyze and evaluate test results according to established guidelines.
Keyboard at 45 words per minute.
Verify accuracy and completeness of documents and process data.
Compile, maintain and submit accurate and complete records and reports.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Read and interpret data processing print-outs.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Perform responsible and difficult clerical work with speed and accuracy.
Work independently with little direction.
Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of formal and informal training, experience and education which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is two years of college level courses in computer and data analyses and three years experience in statistical analysis of student assessment data.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Class C driver's License and a safe driving record.
