JOB TITLE: ENGLISH/DRAMA TEACHER - HIGH SCHOOL

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach content and skills in the areas of English language, reading, literature and composition; and Visual and Performing Arts utilizing California State Standards.
• Adapt English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils.
• Select books and instructional aids to achieve instructional goals and behavioral objectives.
• Provide individual and small group instruction for advanced and remedial pupils as appropriate.
• Strive to develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions of literature and magazines.
• Teach students to read plays with feeling, and understand the theater genre
• Produce short plays in the classroom and plays for the school and parents
• Cast, block and direct longer plays and musicals for community performance
• Order scripts and coordinate stage production, including sets, props and costume.
• Managing productions, including tech, lighting, sound and backstage management
• Leading after-school student rehearsals
• Encourage pupils to think independently and express original ideas.
• Evaluate each pupil's progress in skills of speaking, writing and reading, and prepares progress reports.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed for an orderly, productive classroom environment.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in district inservice educational activities or in self-selected professional growth courses.
• Identify pupil needs and work with other staff members to help pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
• Communicate with parents and school counselors on individual pupil's progress.
• Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the work day.
• Work with pupils and other school staff in various school related activities.
• Administer group tests.
• Order book, instructional aids and supplies, and keep inventory records.
• Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school and on the district level.
• Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
• Share in the sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty committees.
• Plan and coordinate the work of aides and readers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

  3. Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  4. Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, District, school, site-to-site) for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps and to respond to emergency situations.
  5. Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 25 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift 40 or more pounds with assistance.
  6. Ability to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
  7. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
  8. Occasionally push and/or pull a variety of tools, equipment, or objects weighing 40 or more pounds with assistance.
  9. Manual dexterity to carry out the functions of the above essential responsibilities.
  10. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
  11. Ability to work indoor and outdoor.
