DEFINITION:
The Attendance Clerk, under the supervision of the school administrator, assists with records and
reports of all attendance; communicates with administrators, teachers, parents, law enforcement
and other public agencies regarding absences, truancies, related laws, and other matters of
student attendance. May assist with training of assigned students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Records and lists accurate student attendance; enters or scans attendance, enrollment,
truancies, and change of status data into computer.
• Performs a variety of specialized and clerical duties related to the attendance function at an
assigned school site involving period-by-period attendance; prepares a variety of lists, forms,
notices and correspondence related to attendance matters.
• Distributes lunch passes and off-campus passes.
• Prepares reports of Average Daily Attendance (ADA) and various other reports.
• Identifies and reports “no-show” students at the beginning of each school year.
• Communicates with administrators, parents, students, and teachers regarding attendance and
truancies.
• Assists students in a variety of clerical duties.
• Performs related tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
• Attendance laws, codes, rules and procedures.
• Operation of standard business equipment including computers and computer program
relative to the position.
• Record-keeping techniques.
• Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures.
• Proper lifting techniques.
• District policies, rules and regulations.
Ability to:
• Type at a net corrected speed of 40 words per minute.
• Train and provide work direction and guidance to student aides.
• Observe health and safety regulations
• Work cooperatively with others.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Education/Training/Required Certification:
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Two years increasingly responsible experience involving maintaining student attendance
records and statistics.
• College-level training in personnel administration, accounting, management, or related
subjects desirable.
