Reports To: Upper School Director Position Type: Temporary, Exempt, Faculty Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. This position will be covering a temporary leave of absence for an Upper School Counselor (Grades 9-12) at the beginning of the 24/25 school year. The position will be located at the Upper School campus in Lafayette. Responsibilities Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to: ? Work with student deans and campus directors to identify potential crises before they arise and implement programs to address problems before they occur. ? Work toward strengthening individuals and the community to be more resilient to challenges. ? Meet weekly with the Dean Team group, which is composed of grade-level deans, upper school directors, and the learning support specialist. ? Respond to mental health and wellbeing crises as they arise. ? Help students to navigate developmental challenges and difficulties typical of adolescence. ? Assess when students need ongoing psychotherapy or mental health services outside of school. ? Support the everyday growth of and support of students who are not facing an imminent crisis. ? Assist faculty, staff and parents in understanding students, as a way of providing support for teaching and administration in a school setting. ? Provide limited counseling services to students and families seeking (voluntary) support. ? Provide follow-up support (i.e. case management) to students and their families. ? Provide outside counseling and mental health referrals to students and families as determined by the family’s nee
