Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office SPECIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE SPECIALIST (CHARTER) Nevada County Superintendent of Schools in collaboration with John Muir Charter is seeking a Special Education Resource Specialist to serve the special education population at the MUIR site across California. This is an itinerant position and receives mileage imbursement. History of John Muir Charter School John Muir Charter is authorized by the Nevada County Office of Education and was founded in 1998 to serve the young men woman of the California Conservation Corps, Local Conservation Corps, Youth Build, Job Corps and other Workforce Investment Act funded programs. Muir operates in 52 locations across California. The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools serves as the SELPA for MUIR Charter School. Job Summary Provide instruction and services for pupils whose needs have been identified in an individualized education program developed by the individualized education program team and who are assigned to regular classroom teachers for a majority of the school day. This is an itinerant position. Directly Responsible to: Associate Superintendent of Special Education Services/SELPA or designee Supervisory Responsibilities: None; however, may lead, train or participate in team assignments. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: The list of essential functions and physical requirements is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Not all functions may be performed by incumbent. 1. Plans and develops special education services for students in the John Muir Charter programs. Provides direct instruction and/or online supports to students as needed. 2. At the secondary level, emphasis on academic achievement, career and vocational development programs, and preparation for adult life as mandated for transition planning and implementation. 3. Provides leadership to the student study team in identifying students with special needs. 4. Coordinates the development of the proposed assessment plan and arranges for assessment required to determine the pupil’s eligibility, educational needs and placement. 5. Assess, diagnose, and evaluate the learning needs of individual students. 6. Recommends modification of IEP as needed. 7. Prepares and disseminates special education reports to teachers and others. 8. Coordinates and consults with administration and educational staff, parents and support staff regarding instructional planning and services for students with exceptional needs. 9.
