RESOURCE TEACHER – INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES (185 DAYS) 

DEFINITION:

 

The Resource Teacher – Instructional Resources is a certificated, non-management position under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer and/or his/her designee. This position is an instructional resource to teachers making the transition from teacher preparation programs to independent classroom teacher.   

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Supports the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in the work of both new and veteran teachers in the District.
  2. Delivers professional guidance as directed to support new teachers in the areas of effective pedagogy, differentiation of instruction, developing effective classroom environments, technology integration, planning of instruction, and working with English Learners, students with special needs, and high achieving/gifted students.
  3. Supports the needs of participating teachers in the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment program in the District, including the support and review of all work with the Formative Assessment for California Teachers (FACT) activities and documents, as required by the District’s BTSA Induction Program Narrative and corresponding program documents submitted to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  4. Supports a case load of 18-20 BTSA Induction program participating teachers, including the observations and debrief sessions required by the FACT system mandates.
  5. Offers classroom demonstrations of the use of formative assessment to differentiate instruction and the curriculum compacting and lesson scaffolding that results, the use of technology to support instruction, the implementation of strategies to support content understanding for English Language Learners, as well as English Language Development support, the rigor expected with the CCSS and lesson design that the promotes critical thinking and problem solving.
  6. Collaborates with staff in other content specific programs, including Common Core professional development, Common Core Math and Science Teaching (CMAST) System, Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), guided reading, Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), and District sponsored technology support systems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Possess a clear (or equivalent) multiple subject or single subject teaching credential with CLAD/BCLAD.
  2. Minimum three (3) years of successful teaching experience with positive evaluations.
  3. Knowledge of and success in promoting instructional techniques and differentiated teaching and learning approaches that result in improved learning for all students.
  4. Broad knowledge of current and relevant educational research and practices.
  5. Experience working with students with learning difficulties, students with high achievement/GATE potential and English Language Learners.  

 


ABILITY TO:

 

  1. Use student assessments and student work to determine lesson design effectiveness and uses that data for student achievement purposes
  2. Design teacher professional development that aligns to District directed instructional initiatives (e.g. CCSS and SIOP) to meet the needs of all students, including English Learners, GATE students and students with special needs.
  3. Plan and deliver professional development based on assessed teacher need and/or program mandate. 
  4. Use effective communication skills in speaking, listening and writing.
  5. Work effectively in a multicultural setting.
  6. Use effective coaching skills when working with new and/or veteran teachers.
  7. Work effectively with site and District staff members and administrators in collaborative settings to improve instructional practices.
  8. Use technology in the classroom as an instructional tool to raise student achievement and as a tool for program delivery.
  9. Use a variety of techniques, including “Understanding by Design” (backward design) as an approach to planning instruction.

 

DESIRABLE:

 

  1. Possession of a Master’s Degree (Education)
  2. Successful experience in working in a variety of program and instructional settings.
  3. Knowledge of the BTSA Induction program and process, including the FACT system.
  4. Recent successful educational or academic experience in learning theory and instructional strategies.
  5. Expertise in creating and supporting lessons representative of CCSS aligned curriculum.
