Assist with the instructional and related activities of the assigned learning environment. 4. Understand the exceptional needs of special education students. 5. One or more years of experience with implementing Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention reading strategies and other evidence-based reading strategies or One or more years of experience with implementing an in-depth understanding of IMSE's Orton-Gillingham (Institute for Multi-Sensory Education) and other evidence-based reading strategies.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists certified personnel in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment; prepare instructional materials and perform a variety of routine clerical duties as assigned. Under supervision, assists by performing the routine instructional and non-instructional tasks in the teaching process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Assist in the presentation of instructional materials and academic instruction to individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the supervisor; assist students in their understanding and comprehension of reading, writing, language arts, science, math and social studies, performing remedial exercises and other basic instruction as required.
•Observe and appropriately control behavior of students in the classroom and movement of students to various locations on the school campus and during emergency drills.
•Correct and record tests, papers, and homework assignments as directed; prepare homework packets as assigned.
•Perform a variety of clerical duties such as updating progress reports and cumulative folders, recording grades, assembling materials, taking roll, maintaining records and files, duplicating classroom materials and distributing and collecting papers and supplies.
•Operate audio-visual equipment, copier, VCR and computer; set up displays as necessary.
•Report progress regarding student performance and behavior as required; provide input and assist teachers with determining student advancement through established learning programs.
•Assist in the preparation of materials for classroom use as directed by the supervisor; organize materials to assist student learning.
•Direct group activities of students as assigned; assist in monitoring lunch, playground and other activities as assigned; accompany students to bus stops, restrooms, offices and other locations as assigned.
•Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures.
•Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information according to established guidelines.
•Assist students by providing a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
•Communicate with parents, staff and the public as directed by supervisor to provide or receive information as appropriate.
•Attend in-service training sessions.
•Supervise small group activities.
•Assist with fieldtrips.
•Assist with individual student help.
•Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
•A high school diploma or equivalent.
•AA Degree or 48 semester hours of regionally accredited college coursework or passage of the NCLB Instructioanl Aide Proficiency Exam.
•Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Work history demonstrating dependability, reliability, and good attendance.

4. Understand the exceptional needs of special education students.

5. •Organize instructional materials and perform a variety of routine clerical duties.
•Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplicating and maintaining records related to the instructional program.
•Print and write legibly.
•Understand and follow oral and written directions.
•Read, follow, explain and enforce rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
•Communicate effectively with students and adults both orally and in writing.
•Observe and control student behavior according to approved policies and procedures.
•Operate instructional and office equipment, including computers, copiers, audio-visual equipment, and VCR.
•Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
•Perform basic algebra and geometry.
•Use basic numerical concepts such as whole numbers, fractions, percentages, and other techniques for solving problems.
•Use tables, graphs, diagrams, and charts to obtain and convey information.
•Locate, understand, and interpret written information in prose and documents including manuals, graphs, and schedules.
•Learn teacher developed behavioral strategies that increase student independence, motivation, and self-esteem.
•Interact positively with students, parents and school personnel.
