School Librarian Wanted: Must Love Story Time, Research Questions, and the Smell of Freshly Opened Books

Position: Full-Time Librarian (Preschool–8th Grade)
Salary Range: $40,000–$50,000

Can you recommend the perfect book for a reluctant second-grade reader and teach eighth graders how to evaluate online sources all before lunch? Do you believe that libraries are more than quiet rooms with books, but vibrant spaces where curiosity is sparked, questions are welcomed, and imaginations soar? At Gindi Maimonides Academy, we’re looking for a full-time school librarian who brings a love of reading, a deep respect for the learning process, and a strong sense of purpose to every shelf, stack, and student interaction. From preschool story circles to middle school research projects, you’ll be at the heart of our academic and creative life.

What Makes This Role Special:
This is not a “shhh”-style librarian job. Our library is a hub of joyful exploration, inquiry, and community. You’ll design engaging library experiences that encourage students to fall in love with books, learn how to navigate information thoughtfully, and build the skills they need for lifelong learning. You’ll also support faculty with resources, collaborate across departments, and help shape a reading culture that reflects both excellence and inclusion.

We’re Looking for Someone Who Can:

• Inspire a love of reading across ages and reading levels

• Curate a library collection that celebrates diverse voices and encourages exploration

• Teach research, media literacy, and responsible digital citizenship

• Collaborate with faculty to support classroom learning and integrate library skills into curriculum

• Create a warm, welcoming space that meets the needs of both preschoolers and middle schoolers

• Keep things organized, up-to-date, and humming with purpose

Ideal Qualifications:

• Master of Library Science (MLS) preferred

• At least 2 years of experience working in a school library setting preferred 

• Deep knowledge of children’s and young adult literature

• Passion for helping kids and tweens grow as readers, thinkers, and researchers

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

• Familiarity with tools such as G Suite for Education, Follett Destiny, and digital research databases

Schedule:

• Monday–Thursday: 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM

• Friday: 7:45 AM – 2:30 PM
