Education, Training, and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is by graduation from high school or obtaining a G.E.D. equivalent; required education is preferably supplemented by college-level courses. Two years of full-time experience as a peace officer with a California law enforcement agency certified to participate in the Peace Officer Standards Training program. Ability to speak in a designated second language is desirable. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance. All appointees must be citizens of the United States or permanent resident aliens who are eligible and have applied for citizenship. Possession of a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate is required, along with two years of general law enforcement experience subject to verification. Qualify periodically with a revolver or a semi-automatic pistol. Appointment is subject to fingerprinting, a review of conviction records, and a background investigation, including a medical examination and psychological evaluation.
