Job Summary

The Senior Educational Interpreter facilitates communication between hearing students and students who are deaf or hard of hearing, parents, and others by providing comprehensive manual and/or oral interpreting services in a variety of linguistic environments including high level academic subjects such as calculus, chemistry and physics, and providing tutoring for students having special needs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Working Location: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department located on the campus of Madison High School - 4833 Doliva Drive, San Diego, CA 92117 (Area C). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to completion of 24 units of college or university coursework related to the assignment, and five years of paid experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and use manual communication. Additional training and/or experience of acceptable level and quality may be substituted for the education requirement. Mentoring experience is desirable. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of one of the following certifications is required: (Please attach to your online application prior to finalizing and submitting your application.) Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) [Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT), or National Interpreter Certification (NIC)], OR Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Level 5.0; OR National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level 4.0-5.0
