Job Title:                              High School Assistant Principal

Reports To:                         High School Principal

Work Year:                           210 days

 

Basic Function:

Under the direction of the High School Principal, organize, coordinate and administer assigned programs and activities related to guidance and counseling office, instruction, curriculum development and school plant operations as assigned; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

 

Representative Duties:

Assist the principal in the supervision of the instructional program at a school site and provide support for the improvement of learning for every student; E

Lead and monitor implementation of curriculum alignment with State Content Standards, performance-based assessments, use of instructional technology and articulation efforts; E

Assist in adapting school curriculum plans to meet different needs for learners; E

Assist in the direction of the school's in-service and staff development program; E

Assist in the direction, evaluation and supervision of members of the staff, and provide counseling to improve employee performance and to encourage professional development; E

Assign duties to faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives; E

Lead in the development of the master schedule; E

Coordinate and supervise the services of in-school and district resources such as counselors, psychologist, nurse, substitutes and other support staff; E

Assist in the preparation of the annual school budget and assist in the monitoring of budgetary expenses; E

Supervise school auxiliary services, including student safety programs, testing programs, library services, textbooks and multimedia supplies and equipment; E

Assist in the planning and administration of program evaluation and assessment, such as the CAHSEE, STAR testing program and Advanced Placement; E

Lead in the coordination and supervision of the school's co-curricular, extracurricular and athletic programs and activities; E

Confer with students, parents, teachers, law enforcement officers, and representatives of social welfare agencies to resolve individual pupil academic and behavioral problems; E

Maintain high standard of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, following District policies, school procedures, and according due process to students; E

Serve on school and district committees and organizations to assure the interests of the school are properly served; E

Prepare and maintain a variety of District, county, state and federally-mandated records and reports related to  student attendance, discipline, cumulative records and academic achievement; E

Attend professional meetings and other meetings regarding district business, SST's, IEP's, etc; E

Assure the health and safety of students and staff, participate in emergency response activities as necessary; E

Maintain awareness of educational trends and developments as they relate to school program development; E

Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction;

Basic technology skills and usage;

Classroom procedures which promote appropriate student conduct and motivation for student learning.

Applicable sections of the California Education Code and other applicable laws;

Current trends and research concerning the growth and development of high school age students; Curriculum development and supervision; Methods of employee evaluation.

 

Ability to:

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, students administrators and the public;

Use interpersonal skills with tact, patience and courtesy;

Effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with a variety of student, staff and management groups;

Prioritize workload and conflicting demands;

Work cooperatively with students, parents and staff;

Use good judgment in making decisions;

Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;

Analyze and evaluate data for specific use;

Operate a computer and use related software;

Direct and evaluate the performance of assigned staff;

Work effectively with students and their parents;

Work with an ethnically diverse student population;

Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education:

Masters Degree (in Educational Leadership or related field preferred).

 

 

 

 

Experience:

Five years of satisfactory teaching, or related, experience at the secondary level preferred;

Previous administrative experience preferred.

 

Licenses/Certificates:

Teaching or other education related Credential;

California Administrative Service Credential.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS WHICH MAY OCCUR

Comprehensive High School environment;

Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.

 

Physical Abilities:

Near and far visual acuity to observe staff, monitor students, and to read and review correspondence, reports and files;

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer equipment;

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and direction.

 

Mental Abilities:

Oral comprehension and expression;

Written comprehension;

Auditory understanding;

Speech recognition.
