DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Position Description
Under direction of the Superintendent or designee, the coordinator provides leadership and implements the Special Education and categorical programs for the District; plans and conducts staff development for special education; formulates and implements administrative procedures; develops, manages, and assists with management of Special Education budgets; seeks, administers, and implements mandates; performs related duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Provide leadership for the District in the overall operation and development of the Special Education and categorical programs; including implementation of new programs and monitoring of due process and compliance matters.
•Develop and implement curriculum and staff development for Special Education and English Learner programs, including coordination of resources;
•Identify and manage funding sources;
•Coordinate education programs with other agencies, school districts, and other county office programs;
•Prepare and present in a timely manner a variety of reports, records, and statistical data regarding Special Education and categorical programs, including program evaluation;
•Assigns, supervises, and evaluates program staff.
Knowledge and Abilities:
•Knowledge of administration and supervision theories and practices
•Knowledge of educational program planning and elementary school curriculum
•Knowledge of social, education, and emotional concerns of students served in special programs
•Ability to work successfully with clientele served in special programs; including liaison work with teachers and the administrators
•Ability to plan, organize, and implement special programs
•Ability to work successfully with parents, community members, and the business community
•Ability to provide effective educational and leadership support to assigned certificated and classified staff
•Ability to assist in developing, designing, and participating in the process of staff development, and teacher training
•Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Requirements / Qualifications
* A valid California Administrative Services Credential and Education Specialist Credential and/or Pupil Services. * A valid California Driver's License * Master's Degree * 5 yrs successful teaching or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge and special education skills *Administrative experience preferred.
