school grade students; to assist in scheduling; to conduct or assist in group or peer counseling; to identify and assist at-risk students; to conduct tests and coordinate services; and to assist staff and parents in meeting the needs of each student. School Counselors shall be responsible for identifying students at-risk of not graduating with their class, due to a lack of credits, develop information for these students (i.e., department records, course listings) and provide individual counseling services to these students and/or parents. The School Counselor will meet with each pupil, and if practicable, the parents or guardian of the pupil to explain the academic and department records of the pupil, his or her education options, the coursework and academic progress needed for satisfactory completion of high school, and the availability of career technical education. The educational options explained at the meeting shall, if services are available, include college preparatory program and vocational programs, including regional occupational centers and programs and any other alternatives available to pupils within the district. Qualifications 1. Possess Pupil Personnel Credential or be currently enrolled in an approved Internship Program. 2. Three years teaching experience desirable. 3. The personal qualifications necessary to work effectively with students and staff. 4. Prior counseling experience and/or a counseling practicum in a graduate program is desirable. 5. Prior school experience desirable. 6. Experience in working with at-risk students. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provide personal adjustment, educational and social counseling to students on an individual and group basis. 2. Develop a friendly rapport and helping relationship with all students and provide assistance to teachers in interpreting individual needs of specific children with learning and/or behavior problems. 3.
