The District is seeking candidates for a Manager, Workers' Compensation. BASIC FUNCTION: The Manager, Workers' Compensation, will manage the operation of a team of examiners and technical staff for the Risk Management department; provide training, monitor individual claims activity, and provide technical/jurisdictional direction to examiner reports on claims adjudication; and maintain a detailed diary on claims, including frequent diaries on complex or high exposure claims. Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in risk management, business administration, public administration, or related field and five (5) years of claims management experience including three (3) years supervisory experience. Professional certifications as applicable to line of business preferred. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Self-Insurance Administrator’s license may be required. Possession of a valid California driver’s license and availability of private transportation. POSITION SPECIFICS: Working Location is based out of the Risk Management Department - 6735 Gifford Way Rm 7, San Diego CA, 92111 Scheduled Full-time for 12 months/ 248 days per year This position is anticipated to be filled for the start of the 2024-2025 school year Qualifies for District Paid health and wellness benefits for employee and dependents
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: An incumbent may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principal job elements. Identify trends, problems, and issues and recommend a course of action. Identify new procedures and ideas for continuous process improvement. Compile, review, and analyze reports and take appropriate action. Perform quality review on claims in compliance with audit requirements and standards. Act as second level of appeal for claimant issues regarding claim specific, procedural, or special requests; implement final disposition of the appeal. Review reserve amounts on high-cost claims and claims over the authority of the individual examiner. Monitor and maintain periodical review of litigated claims, serious vocation rehabilitation claims, questionable claims, and sensitive claims. Verify direct reports are properly licensed in the jurisdictions serviced. Ensure claim files are coded correctly, and adequate documentation is made by claims examiners. Train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; provide for continuing departmental staff training programs; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination, and disciplinary actions. Perform other duties as assigned.
