Job Summary

Job Summary

Sacramento City Unified School District seeks to recruit a strong instructional leader to advance the vision and mission of Parkway Elementary School. The new leader needs to establish and maintain a school culture and climate for effective instructional experiences where all students are encouraged and supported to meet educational goals in a safe and nurturing environment. The Parkway Elementary diverse student body of 449 students is comprised of approximately 29% African, 20% Asian students, 29% Hispanic/Latino students, and 17% other ethnicities. Additionally, 90% of its students are from socio-economically disadvantaged households, and 21% are English Learners. Parkway has been identified as an Additional Targeted Intervention and Supports (ATSI) school. The new principal will need to address areas of concern surrounding low performance in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and chronic absenteeism. The new principal will need to be familiar with culturally responsive practices, have experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) and Restorative Practices. As a Community School, the goal for the new principal is to work in partnership with parents, community, and stakeholders to create an environment where students are empowered to discover their strengths and achieve their goals. In addition, the principal will need to support staff to develop and implement a culturally responsive curriculum, with high quality first instruction, enrichment, and intervention supports that support the diverse learners at Parkway Elementary.

Requirements / Qualifications

BASIC FUNCTION: Serves as educational leader and administrator of a school, with general direction provided by area superintendent; establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and community organizations; and performs other work as required.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. A minimum of five years of certificated experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional elementary school teaching experience, administrative, or supervisorial experience at the elementary level. Preference given to bilingual speakers, and expertise in vital programs within individual schools including, but not limited to, STEAM, Montessori, Dual Immersion, Waldorf, etc. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Hold a valid Administrative Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required.
