BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Psychological and Child Services will provide psychological services to the school district including counseling, consulting, inservice assessment and evaluations to meet the educational needs of students; evaluates and assesses special education programs; and to do other related activities as directed.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

? Shall be responsible to the Coordinator of Psychological and Child Services and the school site principal when working in school;
? Shall hold consultations and counsel with pupils, parents, teachers and school principals;
? Shall be responsible to perform psychoeducational evaluations for pupils who are candidates for special education programs, including completing observations, testing, gathering pertinent data, completing a written report and presenting the findings at Individual Education Plan meetings;
? Shall work with school site principals in the identification of exceptional children;
? Shall assist in providing services to school principals in programs of special education in their schools, as well as, the Southwest Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) when appropriate;
? Shall attend district and county meetings as appropriate;
? Shall attend Individual Education Plan meetings as appropriate;
? Shall provide DIS (Designated Instructional Services) Counseling as appropriate;
? Shall participate in Student Study Team (SST) meetings;
? Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Current special education law and procedures, and timelines, Current educational theory and philosophies in regards to curriculum modification instruction strategies for the pre-school, elementary and middle school levels, current testing protocols and procedures for ability testing, auditory and visual processing evaluations, and social/emotional evaluations, ability to develop and monitor student behavior plans and to perform functional behavior analysis as needed, and student and staff development techniques.

Ability to: Establish rapport and work effectively and constructively with staff, students, parents and community members. Ability to creatively solve problems and work through the conflict resolution process as needed. Communicate effectively, in oral and written form.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Valid Pupil Services Credential (School Psychology Specialization)

Experience: At least three (3) years experience in elementary school, middle school or intermediate school directly related to special education; evidence of successful educational leadership, counseling experience, and special program coordination required.
