DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Accounting Assistant II classification is the experienced level classification in the Accounting Assistant series. Incumbents perform a variety of complex accounting clerical duties independently in support of District purchasing and other business office operations. The Accounting Assistant I classification is the entry-level classification in the Accounting Assistant series. Incumbents perform a variety of routine and responsible accounting clerical duties in support of District payroll, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing and other business office operations. Knowledge of: Accounting and bookkeeping principles, practices and procedures; financial and statistical record keeping; applicable legal and District guidelines which affect work; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to: Perform a variety of complex and responsible accounting clerical duties independently in support of District purchasing and business office operations; assure compliance with a variety of rules, regulations and established procedures; perform a variety of clerical duties including answering phones, word processing, filing and duplicating; communicate and work effectively with others; perform arithmetic computations quickly and accurately; operate office machines. Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by course work in accounting, bookkeeping or related field and two years of responsible clerical accounting experience.
