JOB DESCRIPTION: PRINCIPAL
Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of “Principal” is done for the purpose/s of supporting student learning through the following: maintaining overall school site operations; receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce District, state and school policy; maintaining safety of school environment; coordinating site activities; communicating information to staff; and addressing situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school.
Essential Job Functions:
* Processes student disciplinary actions and personnel actions for the purpose of documenting such actions and adhering to district policies and education code.
* Chairs/Facilitates meetings, e.g., curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc. for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring activities achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
* Prepares a variety of written documents, e.g., correspondence, reports, analyses, etc. for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
* Manages school administrative functions, i.e., facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc. for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within District guidelines.
* Recommends personnel for hiring to the superintendent and board.
* Evaluates personnel for the purpose of assuring standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
* Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
* Presents information on a variety of topics for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback on issues.
* Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions, e.g., personnel, equipment, disciplinary issues, etc. for the purpose of providing District personnel with direction and/or data for decision making.
* Represents school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment.
* Delegates responsibility for various administrative functions to Assistant Principal and other personnel for the purpose of managing workload efficiently.
* Supervises instructional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
* Intervenes in events of inappropriate behavior of students and/or parents for the purpose of assisting students to modify such behavior, develop successful interpersonal skills and/or mitigates disciplinary action.
* Monitors facility improvement projects.
* Develops programs and processes, e.g., personnel evaluations, class sizes, etc. for the purpose of ensuring compliance to established polices, procedures and/or codes.
* Attends student activities outside of normal school day for the purpose of maintaining supervision of student related activities and ensuring conformance to school and district policies and procedures.
* Supervises instructional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
* Manages variety of school administrative functions, e.g., student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, transportation, etc. for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy, maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
* Processes documents and materials, e.g., schedules, agendas, mail, etc. for the purpose of disseminating to appropriate parties.
* Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
* Evaluates situations, i.e., involving students, teachers, parents, the public, etc. for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
* Develops proposals and grants for the purpose of implementing new programs.
* Implements programs for the purpose of conforming to district and state curriculum and instructional objectives.
* Monitors projects, grants and programs for the purpose of ensuring student performance complies with district, state and federal requirements.
* Facilitates communication and coordination among instructional staff for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and ensuring state mandates are met.
Additional or different functions may be assigned as required.
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Experience Required: Prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in school setting.
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to appropriately manage personnel and programs, effective interpersonal and communication techniques.
Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies.
Abilities to sit for prolonged periods of time, provide direction to others and make independent judgments based on common sense; keep and maintain accurate records; meet deadlines; communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; communicate in oral and written form. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/ fingering, talking/hearing conversations and other sounds, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation.
* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Appropriate Administrative Services Credential, valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability, TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
