On-call position. Sites and schedules will vary based on needs. Provides oral translation of communications and written translation of correspondence and other documents between English and Spanish; serves as an interpreter for meetings, conferences and other events; provides written and simultaneous oral translation for County Office of Education meetings and other programs.
Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: Education: Option 1- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or Spanish, the designated foreign language for this position, OR Option 2- Associate’s degree and completion of Translating/Interpreting certificate. OR Option 3- Proof of enrollment in a degree program with at least 48 college semester units and Translating/Interpreting certificate. Experience: One year of experience translating and interpreting materials and communications between English and Spanish. Please note: If you were educated outside of the US, you must have your foreign transcripts evaluated by an approved agency prior to being invited to the written exam. The evaluated summary must state you have completed high school, and if applicable, any college degrees held. Visit https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/foreign-transcript-evaluation-(cl-635) for a list of approved agencies. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California class C driver's license. Incumbents must be proficient in English and Spanish and pass an oral and written proficiency exam in Spanish.

The Public Affairs Division is currently accepting applications for the Language Translator - English/Spanish classification.
The Language Translator - English/Spanish provides oral translation of communications and written translation of correspondence and other documents between English and Spanish; serves as an interpreter for meetings, conferences and other events; provides written and simultaneous oral translation for County Office of Education meetings and other programs.
The Substitute Translator- English/ Spanish is an on-call, part time, temporary position.

- Following the final filing date, the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated.
- The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam.
- Those who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination with subject matter experts.
- Based on the final scores of qualified candidates, Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list.
- Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities.
- Candidates will be invited over email to participate in examination and selection steps, using the email supplied within their applications. Therefore, it is recommended that candidates check their email at least daily.
