BASIC FUNCTION:

The Counselor assists with the management of the school in all programs as assigned under the directions of the Principal.  Special emphasis will be given to those activities directly related to providing counseling services to the students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

¨Serve as a member of the Principal’s Cabinet.

¨Confer with parents, pupils and/or teachers in matters regarding student welfare and good order and discipline of the school.

¨Coordinate the career education program for the school.

¨Assist in the general supervision of student conduct on or off campus in school-supervised activities.

¨Work with the Principal in the administration of the testing program.

¨Work with other administrators of the testing program.

¨Work with the district nurse in the area of health problems.

¨Serve as a member of the scholarship committee.

¨Assume responsibility for all counseling activities of counselees.

¨Serve as Chaperone at school dances in conjunction with other school administrators.

¨Work with the Principal in managing the news coverage of the school’s student affairs.

¨Work with outside agencies to facilitate contacts with students; i.e., military, vocational schools, colleges, training institutions, and potential employers.

¨Attend Board meetings on a regular basis.

¨Serve as a member of the Management Team; keep informed of and help to formulate all district policy.

¨Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 Credential/License:

¨Pupil Personnel Permit.

¨Valid California driver’s license.

Education:

¨Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred.

¨Training in the Broad aspect of school administration with emphasis on curriculum development.

Experience:

¨Successful teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level.

¨Administrator at the elementary or secondary school level is desirable.

Personal Characteristics:

¨Demonstrated qualities of leadership, ability to speak and write effectively, broad knowledge and skill in curriculum development and educational planning.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

¨Office environment.

¨Sitting for extended periods of time.

¨Walking, standing.

Must have a Pupil Personnel Permit. Must have a valid California Driver's License.

Completed application 3 reference letters Copies of required certificate/materials and once hired, must provide a TB clearance and be fingerprint cleared at employee's expense
