TITLE:   Principal, High School

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A.  Credential

  1. California credential authorizing secondary instruction
  2. California credential authorizing secondary administration service

B.  Education

  1. Sufficient to meet credential requirements

C.  Experience

1.   Three years of successful teaching experience

2.   Successful school administrative, secondary level

D.   Personal

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

A.  Knowledge of management principles and practices, including organization, supervision, and training

B.  Knowledge of secondary school curriculum

C.  Knowledge of the principles and procedures associated with curriculum development and implementation

D.  Knowledge of laws, policies and regulations pertaining to school administration

E.  Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with budgeting and finance

F.  Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures

G. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, student, parents and the general public

H.  Ability to supervise and evaluate the work performance of subordinate personnel

I.   Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

A.   Primary Responsibility

  1. In cooperation with staff, the principal must guide, direct, coordinate the total educational program of the school
  2. To be a competent mediator of conflict, be capable of establishing a climate that will lead to positive results

B.   Major Areas of Responsibility

  1. Curriculum and Instruction
    1. To keep training and instruction foremost in curriculum planning
    2. To establish, with the aid of school and District staff, both long and short range goals for the school
    3. To motivate the staff toward improvement of curriculum and instruction
    4. To evaluate teacher performance on the basis of mutually determined objective criteria
  2. Interpersonal Relationships
    1. To foster sound interpersonal relationships among the students, teacher and the administrators
    2. To communicate the school and District goals, procedures and objectives to everyone concerned
    3. To display expertise in involving staff, students, parents and community in the decision making process
    4. To possess the sensitivity to adjust the school’s program and procedures to the requirements of the individual student’s needs
  3. Administration
    1. To direct policy making at the building level, and participate in the decision making at other levels when the policies in question affect the school’s operation
    2. To accept the responsibility for implementing policy while sharing the authority in whatever manner considered to be in the best interest of the school
    3. To manage the human resources available to accomplish the school’s stated purposes
    4. To be responsible for budgeting and finance in the school
    5. To be responsible for the implementing of District policy in the care and maintenance of the buildings and grounds
